Saturday Social BBQ at Timbre @ Gillman
Since the kids came along, the only places where we can chill out with friends are either at each other’s homes, or a family friendly cafe/restaurants and eat spaghetti or fish & chips. It became increasingly frustrating to go out with the kids to have a decent meal without ketchup. And if you want drinks, that’s close to impossible.
We were in for a surprise when we were invited to attend a Saturday Social BBQ at Timbre @ Gillman. We were told that it’s a time for parents to chill, while kids will be entertained with activities. And above that, there will be good food and drinks. It’s going to be a live BBQ by Timbre’s chefs!
When we stepped in, it looked like the usual family friendly venue. There were a few families there, strollers by the side, mummies carrying their babies, daddies running after their toddlers in the play area. Then we saw, BEER on the table, and what’s that? A Margarita? Woah!!!! Interesting! No wonder these families there were with other friends unwinding at their tables.
Let’s go back to the family friendly bit first. Here’s what the kids get to do. There’s a nice grass area next to where we eat, and Timbre has set up Bouncies and games stations for little kids to play.
The older kids would be at the craft stations to create some really cool pieces. The theme that day was Christmas, so the kids went wild with making Snowmans, getting Balloon Sculptures and getting tattoos.
Meanwhile, the adults could order our drinks, and really yummy food and feast. Here’s what we had:
The Christmas Platter included Baby Back Ribs, Slow Smoked & Grilled Beef Brisket, Pineapple glazed Honey Ham, Ballotine of Turkey Breast, Roasted Cajun Potatoes, Grilled Pineapples, Buttery Brussel Sprouts and Mesclun Salad with Cranberry Red Wine Sauce. It was delicious esp the Beef Brisket. Super soft and tender, and very very flavourful.
For the kids, this was what we had:
The kids had yummy Battered fish with homemade Aioli, Grilled Minute Steak, Nacho Chips & Mushroom Sauce and the best part? Cheesy Fries topped with Vegetarian Bacon Bits. The Adult stole a bit of their food too!
Not your usual Pasta dish ya? And the best part? The food was good. The meat was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. There wasn’t a compromise on the food quality for the kiddie activities.
Above that, we were treated to live music on stage. That day, we have carolers from local singing group–Atcoustic. They brought in much Christmas cheer with their singing and friendly banter with the diners.
If you are looking for a place to hang out with your friends, and your kids have to come along, do check out Timbre @ Gillman on the first and third Saturday of each month. Each SSBBQ has a special theme and complimentary fringe activities for children often include face painting, live music performances, craft activities, play area with games & tents, and prizes. The next Social BBQ is this coming Sat on 20 Dec, and it’s going to be even more Christmassy!
And in Jan, you can look forward to something Green–Urban Farming. There’ll be farming and plant-art activities, and a home-farmer will be around to share tips on how to grow herbs and vegetables at home. All these on 3 and 17 Jan 2015.
Take note of these Saturdays! It’s going to be a great hangout place for your kids, and yourself!
