Limoncello Pizza & Grill Review
Mother’s Day is round the corner, and here’s a little something different for that celebration lunch! Pamper mummy with a Southern Italian feast–dishes that bring out traditional flavours of Amalfi Coast. Limoncello Pizza & Grill is a restaurant set in a quiet corner of Robertson Quay, it offers an al fresco dining area that oversees the Singapore River or an indoor dining area within sight of its own stone pizza oven. (Imagine the homely feel and yummy smells!)
We brought both our mums along for the taste session, as we wanted to find out their views on the dishes! Afterall, it is Mother’s Day! Let me give you some background. For my Mum, she loves Asian food. However, she’s open to try all other cuisines, as long as they taste good! And I must say she is neutral towards Italian cuisine, thus this taste session would really be a good gauge to see if the dishes are delicious!
So here’s what you get when you bring mum for Limoncello’s Mother’s Day Special: A Welcome Drink, 2 Antipasti Starters, a choice between two Mains, and a choice between two Desserts. Check out what we had!
Welcome Drink (Limoncello Spritz)
A light cocktail to whet our appetites! See the two mummies all ready to go Italian!
Portobello Al Tartufo (Oven-baked Portobello mushroom with sauteed Spinach and Truffle Sauce)
This is very very very good! I’m a Portobello fan and this mushroom was baked to perfection. There’s a nice earthy taste and the truffle sauce gave the dish a very refreshing taste.
Saute Vongole (Clams sauteed with white white sauce)
Both mum and I are not Clam fans, but this wine sauce was warm and rich. (we nearly slurped up all the sauce!) The clams were cooked in this butter and garlic infused white wine sauce, and the mix was sweet and very fresh.
You have a choice of A. Fettuccine or B. Salt Baked fish for mains
Mains #A Fettuccine Con Frattaglie di Wagyu (Fettuccine with mushrooms and sliced wagyu beef)
The pasta was done al-dente for this dish, and when it’s mixed with the porcini mushrooms and slices of wagyu beef, the dish was flavourful and very fragrant!
Mains #B Branzino Al Sale (Salt baked Catch of the Day)
This IS one of the two HIGHLIGHTS of the meal! We had Sea Bass that day, and the fish was so fresh, so moist and very sweet! My mum loved this fish, and we did say, if only we brought Dad along, he would eat the entire fish alone!!
Look at how fresh the fish is and you can be sure it melts in your mouth!
Limoncello Cake (Cake with liqueur, almonds and white chocolate)
And this is my favourite dish of the entire menu. This is Limoncello’s signature cake that was so so good, I want to buy some takeaway! This cake is warm and buttery and it is infused with limoncello liquer. The taste enhanced with a tangy lemon and orange tartness which really makes you want to ask for more! (below is a taste portion, the real thing is a regular slice cake!)
Tiramisu (Ladyfingers dipped in expresso and amaretto with Mascarpone Cheese)
And you can’t go for Italian and not have Tiramisu. This completes the meal nicely as it was subtly sweet and very smooth. The coffee aftertaste was just right without compromising on the richness of the cocoa and expresso.
As part of our taste session, we were served the most taste portion slices of their signature pizzas. It was very good!
This was half Sibilla Pizza (Mozzarella, Mascarpone Cheese, Homemade Sausage, Mushrooms and Truffle cream) and half Rucola e prosciutoo di Parma (Tomato, Mozzarella, Parmesan, Parma ham) We were so full, but we still finished the pizza!
And we had a nice starter: Fritto Di Calamari (Deep fried Italian Baby Squid) This was absolutely divine. The squid was so fresh and so sweet, and I’ve never tasted such yummy calamari before!
So at the end of the dinner, I asked my mum how did she find dinner, would she recommend it to her friends, is it a nice set for Mother’s Day… she could only smile cos she was so so full! We were all so well fed, the dishes were well executed and the service was exceptional. In the end, she did say, “it was very good, I didn’t know there’s such a nice Italian restaurant hidden in the city!”
There you have it! My mum’s stamp of approval… Go try something different for Mother’s Day this year. Here are the details for the Limoncello’s Mother’s Day Menu:
