Do Not Call Registry Singapore–Block Unwanted Calls in 2014
Yeah!! The much awaited Do Not Call registry in Singapore will start registry from 2 Dec 2013 (Mon)! If you register your mobile number on that date, you can expect to block unwanted telemarketing calls from 2 Jan 2014. What a great way to start the new year!
I’ve posted about this Do Not Call registry a few months ago in sheer frustration over the numerous unwanted calls and smses that I’ve been receiving. And I’m so excited we can start listing our numbers in this database soon!
Here’s how it works:
All companies have to check its call list with the registry and they are NOT allowed to make any telemarketing calls, send out any telemarketing messages via SMS or Whatsapp. Telemarketers found guilty of defying the registry rules can be fined up to a maximum of S$10,000.
However, take note that there’s an exception!! If you gave written consent to companies to be contacted by telemarketers, your number would be exempted from the registry for that particular company. So please be very careful whenever you join contests, sign up for promotions or get your freebies. Look out for that catch!
But be assured that the Personal Data Protection Act will be in place from 2 July 2014. This means, a fine of up to S$1 million will be imposed on companies if they fail to inform consumers how our personal data will be used when they collect the information.
So how do we register? Go to www.dnc.gov.sg and you can key in your mobile number. A one-time password will be sent to your phone which you need to complete the registration.
Alternatively, via SMS:
- To block calls, text messages and fax messages, send “DNC” to 78772
- To block calls only, send “DNC” to 78773
- To block text messages only, send “DNC” to 78774
It’s that simple! Mark the date 2 Dec 2013 (Mon) on your calendar. I can’t wait to register my number! Are you going to?
I can’t wait for it to be put in place too! Can’t stand receiving calls from telemarketers, especially when I’m busy and when they refuse to accept my polite, “No, thank you, I’m not interested.” I know it’s their job, but I really think this manpower, time, and money, can be better used.
I hope y'all have better luck with your do-not-call list than we've had in the US. We have been on it for years and still get loads of unwanted sales calls. But, I guess it is still better than nothing.
Let us know how well it works!

I will definitely be one of the first to sign up for this! I hope it works though. Somehow, these companies are always able to find a loophole and get around it.

We have something similar in the U.S. and I make sure I'm on the list and keep it updated. It helps a ton!
